Shafts and synchronisers: Adjustment

JAX, and JA3 – JRX, and JR5 – JHX

- Pull the output shaft upwards

(1) using two

screwdrivers as levers.

- Take a reading from the dial gauge.

- Repeat this operation three times.

- Calculate the average of the readings.

CALCULATE THE THICKNESS OF THE BEARINGS'

PRETENSIONING WASHER

Prescribed value + value of the pre-setting washer +

average of the readings on the dial gauge = value of

the pretensioning washer.

example: (value in mm)

0.26 + 1.60 + 0.49 = 2.35

II - ADJUSTMENT OF THE PRE-TENSION OF THE

TAPERED BEARINGS OF THE INPUT SHAFT

Only put the input shaft in the clutch housing to-

gether with its bearings and the pre-setting washer

of the (Bvi. 1161) 0.62 mm in size (small outer dia-

meter

Position the mechanism housing.

Position and tighten to torque the gearbox bell hou-

sing bolts ( 25 Nm )

Fit:

- the backplate (Bvi. 1527) (4) ,

- the lock washer (5) ,

- the gear supporting ring (6)

- the fully tightened nut (7) .

Note:

A set of washers with a total thickness ranging

from 2.15 mm to 2.43 mm in gradations of 0.04

mm is supplied as a spare part.

Note:

This adjustment only needs to be carried out

when replacing the housings or input shaft.
